Mary Walthers is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist serving clients throughout California. Raised alongside four brothers, Mary learned early on the value of listening, empathy, and understanding others. In the midst of a lively household, she naturally became the family’s confidant and from a young age, she knew she was being called to become a therapist.

Mary attended Whittier College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and played collegiate softball, a true love of hers. Through athletics, she gained a deep appreciation for the mental and emotional components of performance, resilience, and perseverance, lessons that would later inform her clinical work. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Psychology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

One of Mary’s very first professional experiences in the field took place at Soultenders, when the practice was in its early days as a single Arcadia location. This formative experience offered her an early glimpse into private practice and planted a seed she knew she would one day return to. From there, Mary’s professional journey expanded as she gained extensive experience in nonprofit settings, working with children, adolescents, and families both in homes and community-based programs. Her career has included working with the county, helping to run a foster family agency, and participating in specialized programs such as integrated health and eating disorder treatment.

After years of diverse and meaningful clinical workMary came full circle, returning to her passion for private practice and to Soultenders, where her professional journey first began. Just this past year, Mary was honored to serve as the commencement speaker at her alma mater, St. Lucy’s Priory High School. As a high school student, she had the opportunity to participate in a peer counselor program, a formative experience that helped continue to pave the way toward her future as a therapist.

Mary firmly believes that therapy serves as a powerful catalyst for transformation and empowerment. In her work, she partners with clients to explore effective ways to manage life’s stressors and to navigate depression, anxiety, and trauma, fostering a path toward healing, resilience, and meaningful change. She believes deeply that God gives each person unique gifts and talents, and that our purpose is to use them in service of others. Her faith is an integral part of who she is and is thoughtfully woven into her therapeutic approach.

As Max Lucado beautifully states, “God never said that the journey would be easy, but He did say that the arrival would be worthwhile.”

Mary is honored to walk alongside her clients on their journeys, offering a space rooted in compassion, authenticity, and hope as they move toward becoming the best versions of themselves.

Outside of private practice, Mary enjoys spending time with her husband and her three beautiful children. She loves staying active through sports and workouts, attending church, soaking up the sunshine, embracing time outdoors,  and activities that help keep her grounded, energized, and connected.
