Josh began his therapeutic career working at Tarzana Treatment Centers. While there, Josh acted as a liaison for the Drug Court program in the Antelope Valley. Under Josh, the program grew from about 15 clients to over 250, coordinating care for clients both within and outside of the jail system across the Greater Los Angeles area. Josh used this time to forge interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues in the Department of Mental Health, the Veteran’s Affairs Office and the legal system. Josh learned of the importance of advocating for clients’ access to comprehensive mental health treatment including the need to address cooccurring disorders, Recovery Bridge Housing, access to healthy food and other needed programs.
While Josh’s early career focused on mood disorders, trauma and addiction, he has since expanded his scope of work to incorporate attachment issues, Inner Child work, ethical non-monogamy, the LGBTQIA+ community, and the importance of full integration including Somatic guidance. Josh is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Seeking Safety, Interpersonal Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and EMDR, and is currently training in the Dialectical Behavioral and Internal Family Systems modalities. Josh uses a quote from Freud to guide his approach with clients: “Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.”
Josh is passionate about his clients and their treatment; however, he also understands the importance of balance. When not meeting with clients, Josh can be found in the kitchen trying a new recipe, whether creating something savory or sweet. As a self-professed “foodie,” he enjoys trying new food with friends, whether at a restaurant or at his home hosting. He can also be found around Disneyland, tinkering on his project car in his garage, working in the yard or immersed in a new home project, taking his pet Scottish Terriers for a walk around the park, or dancing and singing – even if only to the music in his head!
