About

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed professional clinical counselor with over 15 years of experience. I am committed to practicing a compassionate and collaborative form of psychotherapy that recognizes and affirms a client's innate strengths while guiding the client toward greater healing and wholeness. My areas of clinical focus include helping people with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), grief/pet loss, and parenting.

I was drawn to becoming a therapist due to seeing the ways in which anxiety negatively impacted students while I was an educator and finding my own personal therapy extremely helpful and healing. I feel fortunate to have work that feels more like a calling than a career and I continue to be impressed and inspired by how my clients commit to making tomorrow better than yesterday. If you like what you've read here and think my approach may be helpful, I would be honored to meet with you.

I am formally trained and certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and have also received intensive, specialized training in helping people with OCD. I am also trained in and comfortable with psychodynamic and existential/humanistic modalities of therapy.

Ultimately, though, my approach is to invite the client to become a proactive partner (rather than a passive recipient) in the therapeutic process by soliciting feedback on the effectiveness of my clinical approach and, if necessary, making adjustments to best suit the client's needs.

I most often work with clients between the ages of 12 and 60, though I occasionally see people a bit younger or not-so-younger on either side of those years. I enjoy working with creative artists, parents seeking more effective ways to raise their children, people who have recently experienced grief and loss, and those seeking a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life.

No what matter particular issue with which a client needs help, the client should always feel safe with and respected by the therapist, so I prioritize communicating in a warm, gentle, and compassionate manner. In my not-so-humble opinion, any client who has the courage to commit to his, her, or their healing deserves to have a therapist who is committed to setting setting and maintaining a calm, courteous, and secure tone and environment.

As the old saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. I take that saying to heart, so during a first session I'm committed to conveying warmth, empathy, and respect during my first session with a client. I want the client to know that I'm approaching them not as a problem to be solved, but as a person to be understood.
