EMDR Therapy

Somethings are so deeply in us that sometimes we need to empty ourselves to find them.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR is an effective treatment for a number of issues including:
  • Trauma/PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Panic attacks
  • Phobias
  • Low self-esteem
  • Chronic pain
  • Anger
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) has been researched extensively and has proven highly effective for the treatment of those suffering from the effects of a prior trauma. The incomplete processing of the event prevents connections to new learning and adaptive information which might help resolve the trauma. These memories contain emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and often physical sensations that occurred at the time of the event. When the memory is triggered, the elements associated with the memory are experienced and cause a disturbance. EMDR enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress by facilitating memory reprocessing through the use of bilateral stimulation to activate associative processes that allow relevant connections to be made and disturbing memories to be neutralized.

Child EMDR Therapy

Play therapy and EMDR are two powerful methods of therapy for children independent of each other and have proven to be helpful in assisting children who have experienced traumatic events in their lives. Combining the two dynamic methods of play therapy and EMDR offers children ways to process both experientially and cognitively according to their developmental ability. The therapeutic relationship provides a container for holding the child’s intense feelings.

EMDR is effective and well supported by research evidence for treating children with symptoms accompanying PTSD, attachment issues, dissociation, and self-regulation. It has also been effective in treating symptoms related to guilt, anger, depression, and anxiety, and can be used to boost emotional resources such as confidence and self-esteem.
