About
I believe the answers to most of our life questions come from within us. Therapy provides you with a safe and supportive space for you to better understand yourself, where you are at, where you want to be, and how to get there. As a therapist, my role is to help you navigate through these processes using a client-centered, strength-based approach.
I specialize in working with couples as well as adults with depression, anxiety, and trauma (including PTSD, CPTSD, and generational trauma). I also have a strong interest in working with individuals experiencing identity exploration and life transitions.
I have found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to be effective models either by themselves or in combination with each other. However, I also integrate other therapeutic models to best meet the needs of my clients depending on what they respond to and the issues they want to address.
With couples, I emphasize good communication skills as part of the foundation of any relationship. I help couples break negative cycles and see themselves as allies rather than as adversaries, which is important as they work through the issues that have been a challenge for them to having a healthy and fulfilling relationship. I am trained in the Gottman method, which provides me with the knowledge and tools to help couples accomplish these goals.
My experience as a child immigrant and Chinese American woman, and my previous career in social justice education have shown me how the oppressive structure of our society contributes to people’s internal and external conflicts. I also believe that the impact current and historical traumas have on our sense of self and sense of belonging can significantly affect our mental health.
I bring a lifetime of insight and experience to my work with clients that allow me to relate to a diverse range of clients. I focus on guiding my clients to identify their strengths and understand how to build upon them to heal and grow as a healthy person.
